Kulu’s Song

Last week we were invited to visit the Chai Lai Orchid ecolodge near Chiang Mai. Aside from being a gorgeous place, the resort also works closely with Daughters Rising: an organization that focuses on empowering Karen women.

They invited us out to stay for a night and meet some of the Karen staff who work there, many of whom are musicians.

Kulu is one of the young women employed at Chai Lai. She has a serene singing voice and subtle wit.

They brought out an old beat up guitar missing a string. It’s one of the two guitars that all the staff at Chai Lai share. Eh Blee played while Kulu sang a song that she sang when she was a child–a song expressing her love for her Maker.
