About The Noted Project
Two months. Five short films.
Music is more than entertainment.
No matter where you go in the world, music plays a very important role in culture. What happens when your musical culture is disrupted by circumstances beyond your control? That is the question we asked ourselves when we learned about the situation of the Karen people, an ethnic group in Southeast Asia. The Karen are an indigenous group whose culture has been deeply affected by decades of civil war, internal and cross-border displacement, local political unrest, and globalization. The Noted Project is about telling the stories of Karen musicians living on the Thai-Burma border, many of whom have been refugees for decades. In May-June of 2016, The Noted Project team will travel to Thailand to tell the stories of musicians of the Karen people.
Each short film will tell the story of a different Karen musician.
Everyone relates to stories.
By hearing stories of Karen musicians, we hope you will be able to see how your own musical culture is changing. It’s an online snapshot of a quickly-changing musical culture. The end goal of The Noted Project is to create a short film series of five films, each focusing on a different musician.
